The Story So Far
What We Fund
We consider requests for practical support connected with education, training and opportunity. Funding may include:
· Course fees, tuition and training
· Travel passes, travel vouchers and accommodation
· Laptops, tablets and specialist equipment
· Assistive technology, sensory equipment and learning software
· Books, study materials and suitable clothing for interviews or placements
· Work placements and other clearly defined steps towards education, employment or greater independence
Applications are considered individually. Funding is not automatic and will depend on eligibility, the purpose of the request and the funds available.
Our Impact
Recent Support
In the latest twelve months, the Foundation awarded £16,094. Support included:
· After-school tuition: Ongoing individual tuition for three students.
· College travel: Travel vouchers enabling access to college.
· Digital access: Two laptops.
· Reading and maths support: Lexia reading software and a contribution towards targeted maths intervention.
· School development: Emotional literacy support assistant training.
· Education and interviews: Hotel accommodation, an iPad, travel, business attire and textbooks.
· Specialist sessions: Twelve weeks of sessions for two young people.
Examples from Recent Years
· Half the cost of a care leaver's Master's degree, working alongside a local authority.
· Private tuition for children in foster care during their GCSE years.
· Assistive technology for primary schools with a high proportion of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, including sensory equipment, reading software and teacher training.
· An annual travel pass enabling a care leaver to attend a specialist college course unavailable locally.
· Midwifery textbooks for a student nurse.
· Travel, accommodation and suitable clothing for important interviews.
· New laptops and donated furniture for Fresh Futures, formerly Yorkshire Children’s Centre.
Why it matters
Sometimes a relatively modest grant removes the one practical barrier standing between a person and a genuine opportunity.
